It is my great honour and privilege to welcome you to Love Our Turtles: IKHTIAR Foundation Call-to-Action (LOTIF2025). This is a month-long campaign that brings together communities, leaders, institutions, and advocates who share one purpose: to protect our sea turtles and champion a more sustainable future for our marine ecosystems.
Today, the urgency to act on environmental protection has never been clearer. Sea turtles, which have graced our oceans for millions of years, now face growing threats from pollution and climate change, habitat loss and human interference. Through this campaign, we aim to turn awareness into action, and action into long-term impact. LOTIF2025 is more than a conservation effort; it is a platform to educate, engage, and inspire. From public exhibitions and academic congresses to grassroots programs and cultural showcases, each initiative is designed to create space for dialogue, participation, and collaboration.

About the Program
Love Our Turtles: IKHTIAR Foundation Call-to-Action (LOTIF2025) is a month-long conservation campaign dedicated to protecting Malaysia’s sea turtles and marine ecosystems. Organised by IKHTIAR Foundation, co-hosted by Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP), and exclusively delivered by CIC Capital Consultancy, the program runs from 15 August to 14 September 2025, across key locations in Penang, including Georgetown, USM, and Taman Negara Pulau Pinang. At its core, LOTIF2025 aims to raise public awareness, promote sustainable tourism, and strengthen Penang’s role as a leader in marine conservation, aligned with Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
The campaign features three main programmes: Love Our Turtles Exhibition, the International Sustainability Congress, and the Turtle Release Ceremony with TYT of Penang—alongside over 9 pocket programs and 6 workshops. With a targeted reach of approximately 300,000 participants, LOTIF2025 invites individuals, institutions, and industries to take part in a meaningful, community-driven journey to protect nature, starting with the sea turtles that have graced our shores for generations. The campaign aims to create long-term behaviour change and strengthen Penang’s position as a regional conservation leader.
Only 1 in 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings survives to adulthood due to natural predators and human threats. The moment they touch the water, most are quickly snatched by hungry seabirds or fish. It’s a heartbreaking journey, where just a few beat the odds and grow into the graceful adults we so rarely see.
Objective
To promote sea turtle conservation in Penang through education, community engagement, sustainable tourism, and economic impact. We are aiming to promote State of Penang aligning with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair 2025 under the theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

ORGANISER
IKHTIAR Foundation (IF) was co-founded by Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Jailani bin Muhamed Yunus and Mr. Khairul Azar bin Hj. Omar in Putrajaya in 2019, originally under the name Yayasan Sanjung Budi. The foundation was later renamed IKHTIAR Foundation upon its official registration in 2022. It was formally established on 12 January 2022 under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952 (Act 258) through the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM). The IKHTIAR Foundation was established to uphold the tradition of “Living to Give” (Hidup untuk Memberi) by supporting underprivileged communities (asnaf) through five core programs:
- Community Service Programs (CSR)
- Education and Training Programs (ETP)
- Income Enhancement Programs (IEP)
- Community Development Programs (CDP)
- Environmental Sustainability Programs (ESP)
IKHTIAR Foundation was founded on the spirit of “ikhtiar” (effort), as a key platform to address social issues locally and globally. It carries forward a strong legacy in community service with an expanded global vision.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is the local authority responsible for governing and managing development on Penang Island.
