My ESG Forums Hosts Inaugural Forum to Foster ESG Understanding and Integration

Kuala Lumpur, 29 May 2024 – My ESG Forums successfully held its first event in a series aimed at promoting a deep understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The forum took place at the Bangunan Azman Hashim, University of Malaya (UM), and attracted various sectors including public and private sectors, academics, researchers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and more.

The forum consisted of two sessions:

1. Navigating the ESG Landscape: Understanding Environmental, Social, and Governance Factors

2. ESG Integration in Investment Strategies

The first session of the forum featured esteemed panelists with diverse backgrounds, including Gajendran Karunanithi from IBM Malaysia, Dr. Sham Razak from Shawshank Consulting and MYESG100 ambassador along with Fahrul Nizam bin Rusli from the Ministry of Economy. They discussed topics such as the introduction of ESG, government initiatives and policies, regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, and the readiness of the National ESG framework and roadmap.

Additionally, the second session featured Associate Prof. Datin Dr. Izlin Ismail from University of Malaya (UM), Adam Ng from World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Wong Wai Khuen (Dr) from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). They discussed the introduction of sustainable finance, an overview of the i-ESG framework, green finance perspectives, and government policies promoting ESG integration in investment strategies.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Rahmat Mohamad, advisor at the Chartered Institute of Compliance and Accreditation (CICA) in his closing remarks, highlighted the importance of ESG integration for sustainable business practices and provided key takeaways to guide and foster the ESG implementation.

Previously, CIC Capital Consultancy Sdn Bhd and Universiti Malaya (UM) had come together for a memorandum of agreement signing ceremony at UM’s campus, marking the commencement of a collaborative effort to develop a standard guideline for environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting.
